The Insurance Council of New Jersey (ICNJ) is the successor organization to the New Jersey Insurance
News Service (NJINS). Organized in 1977 by prominent insurance company executives, NJINS grew over the
years to become the industry's leading voice in New Jersey. On January 1, 1999 NJINS expanded its mission
and became the Insurance Council of New Jersey (ICNJ).
ICNJ is a nonprofit, insurance research, information and
advocacy organization representing 28 New Jersey licensed
property and casualty insurance companies. Collectively, ICNJ member companies underwrite 92 percent of automobile
insurance policies, 65 percent of homeowners' insurance policies, 67 percent of
workers' compensation policies, and 34 percent of the commercial insurance in New Jersey.
